Deep Cleaning vs. Regular Cleaning: What's the Difference?

A side-by-side of what each includes, when you need a deep clean, and why your first visit takes longer than the ones after it.

Graphic comparing a regular clean, which keeps a clean home clean, with a deep clean, which removes build-up and takes about twice as long
Quick answer

A regular cleaning maintains a home that's already in good shape: surfaces, kitchens, bathrooms and floors. A deep cleaning goes further, reaching the build-up regular visits don't, such as baseboards, door frames, vents, ceiling fans, grout, soap scum and the inside of appliances. A deep clean takes roughly twice as long. Most homes need one as a first visit and then once or twice a year.

When people call for a cleaning quote, one of the first questions we ask is whether they need a regular clean or a deep clean. We'll show you how they're different and help you decide.

When you need a deep clean

  • Your first visit with a new cleaning company. It resets the home so regular visits can keep up.
  • It's been a while. If the home hasn't had a professional clean in a couple of months or more, build-up needs extra time.
  • Seasonal resets. A deep clean in spring, before the holidays, or when reopening a seasonal home keeps build-up from taking hold.
  • Before or after a big event, guests, a home sale or renovations.
  • Moving. A move-out clean is a deep clean of an empty home.

Why the first visit costs more

Build-up on shower glass, grout, range hoods and baseboards takes time to remove the first time. Once it's gone, regular visits only have to maintain it. At Casabela, a deep or first-time clean takes about twice the labor of a regular visit to the same home, and our quotes reflect that. See what house cleaning costs locally.

South Florida extras worth adding

  • Sliding door tracks and window sills collect sand, pollen and moisture.
  • AC vents and returns gather dust quickly with the AC running most of the year.
  • Shower grout and caulk, where humidity feeds mildew. See our mold prevention guide.

Frequently asked questions

How long does a deep clean take?

Roughly twice as long as a regular visit to the same home. A team may spend most of a day on a large home that hasn't been professionally cleaned in a while.

How often do I need a deep clean?

Usually once as a first visit, then once or twice a year on top of regular cleaning, or before a big event, after renovations or when you move.

Is a move-out clean the same as a deep clean?

It's similar but done in an empty home, so it also covers the inside of every cabinet, drawer, closet and appliance.

Do I need a deep clean before starting recurring service?

Usually yes. It resets the home so every regular visit after that can maintain it in the time scheduled.
